Rules (adopted 6 May 1998, amended 11 Feb 2004)

  1. The Club Rules are to be obeyed by all Members.

  2. Minimum age limit for Air Weapons is 10 years of age and for Smallbore, 16 years of age. The Committee reserve the right to accept juniors for 0.22 rifle at age 14 provided that they are accompanied by their parent. They must be supervised at all times (see Rule 12). Any junior under the age of 16 wishing to shoot Smallbore Rifle with his or her parent must have Committee approval via the Discipline Captain.

  3. Junior Membership fee applies to Members under the age of 18 years.

  4. O.A.P. Membership fee is for Members of State pensionable age.

  5. Prospective Members wishing to join the Club must be made aware of these Rules. An application form must be fully completed, and the respective fee paid. All fees are displayed on the notice board.

  6. The outcome of each application for full Membership, whether approved or rejected by the Committee, will be notified to the Police, together with the name and address of the applicant. This is a Home Office Regulation requirement.

  7. Probationary Members must be accompanied and instructed by an experienced Club Member whilst shooting, until deemed range safe. This is a Home Office Regulation requirement. Ammunition and Club weapons will be issued by and returned to the Range Officer(s).

  8. A full Member acting as Range Officer has to be a minimum of 20 years of age.

  9. Until Probationary Members are deemed range safe, they are only to be issued with weapons & ammunition whilst under the control of their Instructor.

  10. Social Members will be eligible to shoot only Air Weapons on payment of the standard visitor's fee, but will not be permitted to shoot in competitions. Social Members who have previously been full Members will be able to revert to full Membership without payment of a joining fee and without the need to undergo a probationary period, provided they are certified range safe. Social Members will be eligible to serve on the Committee. The annual subscription fee for Social Membership is displayed on the notice board.

  11. Members should wear membership cards as badges whilst present in the Club (Range).

  12. Juniors are not allowed to shoot unless there is an adult Member supervising their shooting in the Range.

  13. It is advisable that there are TWO Members present when shooting, in case of an accident and also to witness competition targets.

  14. Range Officers are to take possession of the Clubroom and Armoury keys, and they are to ensure that the Armoury door is kept locked when not removing or replacing weapons, scopes, etc. No one else may enter the Armoury, unless they are a Committee Member. Shooters in a given session must see that one of their number (it need not be the same person during the whole of the session) is always acting as Range Officer. That person will be identified by wearing the appropriate insignia.

  15. When the red light above the range door is illuminated, NO ONE is allowed to enter the Range except the Range Officer.

  16. NEVER POINT A WEAPON AT ANYONE!

  17. When weapons are removed from the Armoury, or from their cases, they must be left in a "proved" condition.

  18. Do not touch weapons, ammunition or equipment belonging to someone else without their permission.

  19. Weapons must only be prepared for firing on the firing point.

  20. Breeches or magazines may be charged ONLY after the Range Officer commands "LOAD" or "CARRY ON", and the RED SIGNAL LIGHTS IN THE RANGE HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF.

  21. At the end of each detail, Range Officers must check that all weapons are left in a "proved" condition.

  22. Do not go forward of the firing point until the Range Officer permits, and the red signal light in the range has been illuminated.

  23. Any ammunition purchased and not used in the session may be stored in the Armoury. It must be left in its box, identified with the individual's name and placed in the container provided. No more than 50 rounds per individual may be stored. Any Member wishing to remove ammunition from the Club must have it entered on to their Firearms Certificate.

  24. If you are to take part in any competitions, you should ensure that you are fully aware of the rules for that competition. Apply to the discipline Competition Secretary for the rules.

  25. Unless individual competition rules deem otherwise, details should be over within:

    15 minutes for Rifle, and 8 minutes for Air Weapons..

  1. Anyone found causing, or proven to have caused, wilful damage to any range fitting or Club equipment will be expelled from the Club

  2. Take care that familiarity and casual attitudes do not allow you to overlook any safety precautions.

  3. Members should make every effort to carry out Range Officer duties as allocated to them. If they are unable to fulfil their duty of Range Officer, they must get another Member to deputise for them, or inform any Section Committee Member.

  4. Keys 11 and 11a may be drawn by any Member at any time for access to equipment for use on the outdoor range. Keys 14 & 15 may only be drawn by full adult Members with one year's full Membership on pre-booked range times, providing that their membership card has been "key stamped". Committee Members with more than one year's full Membership may draw all keys at any time.

  5. Private hire of the Range is possible by full Club Members providing the following procedures are carried out:
    a) Check with the Reception Desk that there is no prior booking.
    b) Upon arrival show valid Club membership card.
    c) Ask for "Additional Club Time Register", and enter their name and address, as well as that of any other persons with them. This is necessary to comply with Home Office Regulations.
    d) The person hiring the Range must pay for the time used on the day.

  1. Any private hire that needs the use of Club equipment is to be booked through the Club. The fee is to be determined by the Committee and will be the current normal range hire fee + VAT (as applied by the Centre) with an additional charge (which is displayed on the notice board) per hour for use of equipment, with attendance of one Club Member to act as Range Officer/Supervisor. (See also Rule 29).

  1. Personal weapons, ammunition, or equipment may only be stored in the Armoury by applying to the Club's Firearms Certificate Holder on the form provided giving seven days notice (or less if agreed by the FAC Holder). The FAC Holder will set a limit on how many weapons may be held; no loose ammunition is allowed. For long term storage the application must be renewed annually and an annual fee (which is displayed on the notice board) is applicable. Short term storage is permitted for up to 3 weeks per occasion during holidays. Personal gun boxes/cases stored at the Club should be kept locked. No responsibility can be accepted for personal weapons, ammunition or equipment stored in the Armoury.

  2. Any new rules affecting safety or the conduct and running of the Club shall be brought to the Members' attention as soon as possible, either by letter or amendment slip, or a relevant notice displayed in the Clubroom.

  3. Committee Members should serve no more than 3 years consecutively in one position.

  4. Renewal of Membership must be made by 30th September each year or Membership will be deemed to have lapsed and must be re-applied for before an individual will be allowed to shoot. If a Member is a Firearms Certificate Holder, the Club has a duty to inform the Police of the following:
    (1) If you cease to be a Member, for whatever reason.
    (2) If you have not shot with the Club for a period of 12 months.
    Belonging to a certified gun club is a requirement for holding a Firearms Certificate.
